Are we all not, but just a bunch of attention seekers?
Isn't that the overpowering feeling amongst all of us, all through life?
To be the most important person to someone, to be admired for any and everything we do, to be the go-to person for someone when s/he seeks advice..and so on?
We ignore people who give us attention, cos that's a feat already accomplished and does not hold much thrill
And we run after someone, the moment s/he stops giving us that importance, which they used to earlier
Well, my 1.5 year old nephew is someone who affirms my belief that this is the nature we are born with.
Its something in-built in us, and till our last breath, we will always be that. Some in very big measures and some in small. Some learn with time, and get indifferent..and some never learn
If you see this kid and try to get his attention, he will not even look at you. His attention is constantly on laptop, TV remote, phone, books...there is no way will he sit near you and listen to you. He has to be constantly entertained by something or the other.
There is not a dull moment in a kid's life.
But the moment I start speaking to my sister, or on phone..basically don't try and run behind him, THEN you should watch his reaction.
He would bring his face so close to me that I cant see anything else, or start laughing and hitting me so that I can't talk to anyone.
He would make those most endearing faces and acts so that I have no other go but to look at him
Yes, that's what we all are, attention seekers!

Yep, as they say, God has put a part of Himself in all of us. Hence we think we are little gods roaming around this earth and all attention should be ours :-)
Oscar Wilde observed: "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about".
@Raajii - :)
@Syed - Hah! That reminds me of all these celebrities, cooking up stories about themseleves and releasing to to media..just to be in news
But there comes a time in life when you start living in your own little world, when you write because that's how you know to speak out loud to yourself, when being admired is the least of your concern and being emptied out of everything your only intent, when every bit of what is done is meant for self. I don't know, I am not sure. Sometimes this feeling of not being watched or ignored gives a strange drive for there is none to satisfy but yourself. Just a view. :)
Tapas - That's what I said..some learn with time..maybe they tire of seeking or they realize its something not worth it.
Yes I understand being not watched has its own charm and drive..but not as a constant thing in life
Beyond all this, the wish to be alone
However the sky grows dark with invitation cards
However we follow the printed directions of sex
However the family is photographed under the flagstaff
Beyond all this, the wish to be alone.
Beneath it all, desire of oblivion runs:
Despite the artful tensions of the calendar,
The life insurance, the tabled fertility rites
The costly aversion of the eyes from death---
Beneath it all, desire of oblivion runs.
'WANTS' by Philip Larkin.
@Tapas, you have a point there, hence the above poem.
It is always difficult to satisfy others and if one overcomes this desire, life will become easier.
